Graduate Degree Requirements

M.S. with Thesis Option: (30 credit minimum)

  • 24 credits in graduate-level chemistry coursework (with approval of advisor, up to 12 credits may be taken in related areas)
  • 6 credits of research
  • Acceptable thesis
  • Participation in departmental seminars

M.S. Non-Thesis Option: (30 credit minimum)

  • 24 credits of graduate-level chemistry coursework (with approval of advisor, up to 12 credits  may be taken in related areas)
  • 6 credits of chemistry seminars and/or chemistry research and/or graduate-level chemistry courses

As with all masters degrees, all requirements must be completed within six years after beginning graduate-level coursework at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ.

For the Ph.D.

  • 24 credits in graduate-level chemistry courses
  • At minimum 2 consecutive years of full-time study (average 9 - 15 credits / semester)
  • Written, monthly cumulative examinations
  • Oral examination requirement
  • Participation in department seminars
  • A dissertation reporting research results
  • Dissertation defense.
