Biography
Dr. Patnaik joined ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ in 2007 and is currently the interim chair of the department. He was previously a faculty member at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSM&T). He was also the site director for the National Science Foundation (NSF) Center for Friction Stir Processing (CFSP) at SDSM&T. He is the author or co-author of over 100 journal and conference papers, sole author of a book on the design of basalt FRP reinforced structural concrete, co-editor of three conference proceedings, author or co-author of over 100 research, design and other reports. Dr. Patnaik secured millions of dollars in research grants and contracts from several federal and state agencies, and private companies. He also received several prestigious awards such as the Louis A. Hill Jr. Award of CEPS, the Martin P. Korn award of the PCI, best paper awards from SAE and Indian Society of Earthquake Technology, and was the faculty advisor of two award-winning titanium pedestrian bridge designs in a national competition. Thirteen doctoral students and over 60 master’s students completed their dissertations and theses under his guidance.
