Our mission

“The Center for Emergency Management and Homeland Security Policy Research at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ is dedicated to create a supportive environment for research, academics, and outreach in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. This Center will support and encourage multidisciplinary endeavors in these fields that will make a positive contribution to society.”

The Research Center

  • Conveniently located in the Polsky Building downtown Akron, Ohio on the campus of ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ;
  • Established since 2002
  • Collaborative partnership between ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ and The Ohio Emergency Management Agency
  • Primary charge to improve the practice of emergency management
  • Strong policy focus so that research is used to improve practice

Concept:

  • Focuses on policy and its interaction with the function of emergency management
  • Analysis and research relates to current emergency management questions and issues, on both state and national levels
  • Uses research results to be applied to improve real life practice 

Project areas include:

  • Terrorism preparedness
  • Business and industry continuity
  • Disaster response and recovery assessment
  • Management practices relating to crises and disasters
