Q & A with Dr. Malik Elbuluk, Professor

Q: You have been at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ (ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ) since 1989. How has the college changed over your time here and what about it inspires you to stay?

We have undergone a significant transformation towards a more research-oriented approach. In the mid 1980’s, the College strategically recruited new faculty members, shifting our university to one that prioritized research excellence. Notably, in the field of electrical engineering, I headed developing a program in power electronics, which has grown since 1989 to have a national and international reputation. This program also inspires me to stay at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ, as progress in it has always been on the rise and still going. I am very proud of this program and will continue my efforts to further promote it.

Q: What part of your research and work experience are you most proud of?

I am proud of our program in power electronics and motor drives, as well as the research we do and our ability to reach Ohio industries and federal agencies. I am also proud of my contributions to the electrical engineering department, like overhauling the curriculum and serving in many committees.

Q: What changes would you like to see in the electrical and computer engineering industries going forward?

I envision fostering stronger collaboration between industry and academia, particularly in the dynamic field of power electronics. Within our university, I find great satisfaction in the growth of enthusiasm of high school students pursuing engineering studies. Moreover, I am also keen on pioneering innovative curriculum development and exploring hybrid programs that seamlessly integrate electrical technology and computer technology by our EEET Program.
