The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) has named Dr. Mary Verstraete, associate professor of biomedical engineering, the 2016 ASEE National Outstanding Teaching in recognition of her distinguished accomplishments.
"Dr. Verstraete is absolutely dedicated to students’ academic success," says Brian Davis, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering. "As a key faculty member responsible for creating the undergraduate program in Biomedical Engineering over 18 years ago, she is personally vested in the success of all of our students and has a remarkable track record in mentoring and shaping the career paths of these students."
The selection for the National Outstanding Teaching Award is initiated by a nomination, and the ASEE National Outstanding Teaching Award Committee bases its selection on their evaluation of all nominations received. The selection for this award is then confirmed by the Awards Policy Committee. The thorough review process enhances the high regard in which the award is held.
Dr. Verstraete will be honored at the 2016 ASEE Annual Conference and Exposition in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 27.
