The Ohio Contractors Association (OCA) recently held its 23rd Annual Estimating Competition, where teams of students from colleges across Ohio showcased their skills in construction estimating. ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ (ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ) emerged as the champion, clinching first place for the fifth time in the event's 24-year history, the most of any other university.
Led by members Carl Schaub, Hayden Heilman, Kailee Gorczyca, Shane Larkins, and Jack Weaver III, the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ OCA team demonstrated outstanding talent and teamwork. They were guided by Paul Rawlings (faculty advisor), Chuck Gillombardo (industry advisor – Kokosing Industrial), and Kendall Kubus (industry advisor – The Ruhlin Company).
“This year the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ OCA team won by the largest margin of any team since 2015,” shared Gillombardo.
The competition provided invaluable experience for ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ students, allowing them to collaborate with industry professionals and refine their skills to accurately estimate construction projects, a key aspect of civil engineering. At the heart of the team's success lay more than just talent and teamwork—it was the guidance and classroom management of faculty advisor Paul Rawlings that helped set them on the path to victory.
The ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ OCA team extends its gratitude to The Ruhlin Company and Kokosing Industrial for their mentorship and continued sponsorship.
