Mary C. Verstraete, associate professor and coordinator of the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ undergraduate program for biomedical engineering, was selected as the recipient of the Society of Women Engineers' (SWE) Outstanding Faculty Adviser Award. The award is given annually to acknowledge outstanding contributions by a SWE adviser to a SWE collegiate section.

"This year's award recipients all positively influence women engineers and technologists, inspire the next generation, and help multiply the momentum within SWE and their own communities," says Melissa Tata, SWE president.

Along with her SWE membership, Verstraete also serves as a member the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Society of Biomechanics and the Biomedical Engineering Society, among other organizations.

"Dr. Verstraete's effectiveness as an adviser and her success as a researcher, particularly in the areas of human-motion analysis, gait analysis and finite element applications in biomechanics, certainly merit this distinction," says Dr. George K. Haritos, dean of the ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ College of Engineering.
