Grant helps launch full teacher scholarships for Summer Institute

06/26/2024

ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ’s H. Kenneth Barker Center for Economic Education, part of the LeBron James Family Foundation School of  Education, was awarded a $9,000 grant by the Ohio Department of Commerce to fund K-12  teacher scholarships for the Center’s 2024 Teaching Financial Literacy Summer Institute.

The Institute, planned for July 8-10, will train Ohio teachers to develop and integrate financial literacy education in their classrooms. The multi-day event includes sessions led by experienced K-16 industry professionals, provides networking spaces, allows access to standards-based instructional resources, and includes a special off-site charter and educator tour of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. The awarded Ohio Department of Commerce grant will be used to provide additional full teacher scholarships to full-time K-12 teachers in Ohio. These scholarships cover all registration related expenses such as keynote and breakout speakers, supplies, meals and off-site excursions. In addition, award funds will be available to provide stipends to educators from Title 1 schools participating in the Institute. This is the fifth year the Center has hosted its annual teacher summer institute.

“This critical investment will go a long way in helping to outfit more Ohio teachers with the latest insights and resources to empower K-12 students for a financially fit future,” said Dr. Brad Maguth, director of the Barker Center.
