Biography
Before joining ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ, Dr. Suryanarayanan was a research associate & lecturer at the Department of Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics at The University of Texas at Austin. His doctoral research with the late Professor Roddam Narasimha was on the application of vortex methods and statistical mechanics to study turbulent free shear layers. He works on Air Force Office of Scientific Research and National Science Foundation-sponsored research on the control of transitional and turbulent boundary layers.
Recent direct numerical simulations and matched experiments by Dr. Suryanarayanan and co-workers demonstrated that engineered surface textures can mitigate roughness-induced boundary layer transition, such as that caused by environmental debris on aircraft wing leading edges. Dr. Suryanarayanan aims to utilize this finding to improve the efficiency and endurance of low-speed aircraft, as well as wind turbine performance. He is also interested in the development of numerical methods, vorticity dynamics, and control of turbulent flows for a range of mechanical and aerospace engineering applications.
