Platt, Andy and Linda Family Scholarship
The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship was truly a team effort by Andy and Linda Platt and their daughters, inspired by family discussions during a period of racial tension in the spring and summer of 2020. Their daughters Amanda, Leah, and Adriana felt strongly that being a quiet bystander did not contribute to improving racial relationships. The idea for a scholarship with personal involvement, mentoring and networking was motivated by and conceived through these discussions. It is the family's hope that The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship, established in May 2021, will be truly life changing for the recipient and will have a positive impact on race relations.
Andy and Linda are both alumni of ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ College of Business. Andy received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1978 and his MBA in 1989, and Linda received her MBA in 1987 and her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 1981.
The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship will award up to $12,500 to an incoming freshman who intends to pursue a major in the College of Business at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ. First consideration will be given to a student of an underrepresented race. To be considered for The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship, students need to be enrolled full-time, have a strong interest in participating in student organizations or other professional development activities and should demonstrate a willingness to participate in a mentoring program in the College. Additional consideration will be given to students enrolled in the College's Summer Leadership Academy. The scholarship will be awarded to students who, although they may not qualify for federal grants, clearly demonstrate the need for financial assistance to meet their cost of attending the University.
Selection of recipients will be determined by the College of Business Dean's Office. The Andy and Linda Platt Family Scholarship will be applied to the recipient's student account and can be used to assist with tuition and fees, other fees, room and board, and meal plan costs. It is preferred that one deserving student be awarded the total scholarship amount available, but the scholarship can be distributed among multiple recipients at the discretion of the College of Business Dean's Office.
This scholarship is renewable annually for three additional years after the initial year or until the recipients graduate, whichever is sooner, as long as students continue to meet the above criteria, maintain a major in the College of Business, remain in good academic standing, actively participate in a student organization in the College of Business and are active in the College's mentoring program.
