Office of Multicultural Development Social Justice Fund

The Office of Multicultural Development Social Justice Fund was established in 2021 by anonymous donors to support the office's work in providing wrap-around educational services to University of Akron students of color. The goal of this support is to position more students for success in their pursuit of college degrees and on into professional life.

The Office of Multicultural Development Social Justice Fund shall be managed by the Office of Multicultural Development at the direction of the Vice President for Inclusion and Equity and Chief Diversity Officer, in consultation with the Director of the Office of Multicultural Development. The vice president shall be given broad discretion to use these funds as they are needed most to support students served by this office. He or she is encouraged to be creative in using the funds as circumstances evolve and new opportunities arise over time. The goal is to help young people overcome barriers and position them for success in their studies and beyond.

Funds may be used to provide scholarships, applied to tuition, fees, books, technology, on campus housing, and meal expenses, or otherwise designated to alleviate financial barriers associated with attending college.

Funds may also be used for any purpose that advances the mission of the Office of Multicultural Development. Examples include but are not limited to hiring academic tutors, student or graduate assistants, providing mental health support services, developing programs to encourage middle and high school students to attend college, and fostering peer and professional mentorship relationships.
