Summit Scholars Award Fund
The Summit Scholars program was established in 2008 as a collaborative fundraising effort between ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Foundation and Summit Education Initiative. ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ Foundation acted as the receiving agent for all funds received for this program per the Memorandum of Understanding (dated October 2008) with Summit Education Initiative. Funds were received from foundations, corporations, and individuals primarily in Summit County to be distributed twice annually through a Summit Scholars Award Fund to students who have successfully completed a college-access program in Summit County. Individual scholarships will not exceed $1,500 annually. Recipients will be determined by a committee of community members who have an interest in education, preferably participants of the Leadership Akron Class XXIV, who initiated this project.
Beginning in the 2011-12 school year, all remaining funds will be used to support scholarships for graduates of the Destination College program. Destination College will collaborate with the Office of Student Financial Aid to determine awards.
Candidates for this award must be admitted to ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ, maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA, attend full time each semester, demonstrate financial need, and have successfully completed the Destination College Program. Scholarship awards may be used only to cover the cost of tuition.
