Lindquist, Melody Rose Mollis and Dr. John H. Lindquist Endowed Scholarship in Special Education and Marriage and Family Counseling

The Melody Rose Mollis Lindquist and Dr. John H. Lindquist Endowed Scholarship in Special Education and Marriage and Family Counseling was established by Melody Rose Mollis Lindquist and Dr. John H. Lindquist in 2011.

Ms. Lindquist was born in Akron, Ohio, and earned her B.S. in education with a minor in special education at ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ. She earned three special education endorsements and later obtained her M.A. in education with a specialty as an educational diagnostician from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She then earned her second M.A. in education from Our Lady of The Lake University in San Antonio, with a specialty as a school counselor and a concentration in clinical counseling. Ms. Lindquist utilized these skills in the public school system and later started her own practice as a psychotherapist. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor.

Dr. John H. Lindquist was born in Chicago, Illinois, and spent his youth in Arizona. He attended Northern Arizona University, where he received both his B.S. in education and his M.A. in education. After receiving his doctorate in social sciences from The University of Syracuse, he returned to Northern Arizona University, where he taught for five years. He then came to ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ and taught for five years before accepting a position at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where he remained on the faculty for 21 years. He is now professor emeritus in sociology at Trinity.

As lifetime learners and educators, the Lindquists are passionate about assisting students who are seeking a career in the field of special education or marriage and family counseling. Throughout her career, Ms. Lindquist found herself utilizing the skills she developed during her special education experience and her specialized training in marriage and family therapy.

The Melody Rose Mollis Lindquist and Dr. John H. Lindquist Endowed Scholarship in Special Education and Marriage and Family Counseling will be awarded annually to two deserving students majoring in special education and/or marriage and family counseling. Eligible students will be pursuing either an undergraduate or graduate degree in either or both disciplines. The students should maintain a 3.0 GPA and have a financial need. It is expected that the recipients have a strong work ethic and a commitment to making a difference for all students. All fields of specialization in the special education program are eligible. The scholarship is renewable, and the recipients will be determined by the College of Education in conjunction with the Office of Student Financial Aid.
