Scarpitti, Paul S. Football Scholarship
The Paul S. Scarpitti Football Scholarship was established in 1995 by Paul S. Scarpitti, a former University of Akron football player and letter winner from 1949-1951. He was honored to be selected co-captain in the year 1951. As a result of more than 40 years of involvement with Akron's athletic program, as an avid supporter and fan, Paul generously initiated a fund that always will make a difference for a program for which he deeply cares. During the years in which he played as a lineman, Paul played positions on both the offensive and defensive line. He understands that no one position, be it on offense or defense, in a team sport, is any more important than those played by one's fellow teammates. However, it is in the "trenches," as a defensive lineman, that Paul enjoyed his playing days the most. Therefore, Paul wishes to designate this award specifically to the student-athlete who maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and is a defensive lineman who holds the position designated as "defensive nose tackle." Furthermore, Paul asks that the student-athlete selected for this award be always mindful of being a representative of ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ, whether it be on or off the field, and is a person who by example is held in high regard and displays qualities of purpose, leadership, sportsmanship, and citizenship.
