Gibara, Samir and Salma International Business Fellowships

Samir Gibara was born in Cairo, Egypt, and earned a BS in business from Cairo University in 1960 and an MBA in international business and finance from Harvard University in 1964. He also attended the Kellogg Graduate School of Management’s Executive Program at Northwestern University. His career with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company spanned more than 30 years, including serving as president of Goodyear Canada in 1989 and Goodyear Europe one year later. Mr. Gibara came to Akron in the newly created position of vice president of strategic planning and business development and also as acting vice president of finance. In May 1994, he was named executive vice president of North American Tire and became president and CEO in January 1996. He retired as chairman of Goodyear in June 2003. He and his wife, Salma, maintain a residence in Akron.

As a true “internationalist” and advocate for the Institute for Global Business in ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ’s College of Business Administration, Mr. Gibara desires to see The Samir and Salma Gibara International  Business Fellowships benefit students with a demonstrated history of high academic performance who are pursuing degrees in international business. The awards are to be made available annually to one international student from outside the United States and one domestic student from within the United States. The awards are renewable based on academic performance, with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above required for consideration. Selection of recipients will be determined by the dean of the College of Business Administration, with input from the director of the Institute for Global Business.
