Yassine, Carol Endowed Scholarship for Nursing Students

Dr. and Mrs. Carol Yassine have maintained a lifelong love for scouting and wish to recognize the scouting ideals of promoting good character, citizenship, and service to others by establishing The Carol Yassine Endowed Scholarship for Nursing Students. They have been actively involved in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts movement at the local, national, and international levels, and they are Baden-Powell Fellows of the World Scout Federation. Carol is a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America. It is their hope that The Carol Yassine Endowed Scholarship for Nursing Students will support nursing students who embody the ideals of scouting. This scholarship is for one year only to students newly admitted to the College of Nursing. This scholarship is awarded annually, if the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria each year.

Carol Yassine is a former member of ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ’s College of Nursing Advancement Council and past recipient of the College’s Dean’s Award. She graduated from the Huron Road Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University. Mrs. Yassine served as head nurse of Huron Road Hospital and as a staff nurse for Akron City Hospital. She also served as a clinical instructor for Huron Road School of Nursing; American University of Beruit School of Nursing in Beruit, Lebanon; and Akron General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Yassine is an active volunteer and leader of countless civic and charitable organizations in the Akron area and has received numerous awards for her philanthropy, involvement, and leadership.

Applicants must be at least a sophomore in ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ’s College of Nursing. First consideration is given to applicants with scouting experience, with preferential consideration given to Akron residents, then surrounding communities, and, finally, other Ohio cities. The scholarship committee in the College of Nursing will review applications and select the student recipient.

Applications should be submitted to ÐãÉ«¶ÌÊÓƵ’s College of Nursing and should include a brief statement about scouting experience, if applicable. Final determination will be based on the extent of involvement in scouting and financial need. If no candidate meets the above criteria, then consideration will be given to a College of Nursing applicant with financial need who embodies the ideals of scouting: good character, citizenship, and service to others.
