Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate

This certificate program is intended for those seeking training and an initial qualification in the teaching of English as a second language for the purpose of teaching ESL in settings other than the Ohio public school system. The program is designed to introduce the student to the central issues in the theory and practice of teaching English to non-native speakers through courses in modern and applied linguistics, in second language pedagogy and in related disciplines.


Admission Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Students who do not have English as a native language must demonstrate adequate proficiency in English with a valid TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based)
